Life Story
Ileana was a born academic. Her fervent passion always remained reading, math, and science. She spoke English and Spanish. She excelled in her studies and was always at the top of her class. She was hard-working and determined. She also broke many gender barriers in the workforce, and was promoted to positions in the field of chemistry not held by women preceding her. She developed many lifelong friendships in her field, which she valued and spoke of frequently.
Ileana loved her children and grandchildren dearly. She showered them with attention and held each one close to her heart. She was an eternal optimist. Although she had chronic health issues, she always looked at the glass as half full. Despite her challenges in life, she never complained. She was vivacious and joyful. She never missed a family gathering, and energetically shared her life stories with family and friends.
Ileana is survived by her son, John and her daughter, Trisha. She is also held in loving memory by her grandchildren, Carolyn, Larry, Allen, and Carl, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Her brothers Roy and Louie preceded her in death.
Ileana will be missed dearly by all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
