IN LOVING MEMORY

Donovan Duffy

1998 - 2022

Donovan Duffy

Donovan “Dono” Jocson Duffy of Chicago passed away on January 16th, 2022 at the age of 23. Donovan was born on March 27th, 1998 at Norwegian American Hospital in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. His life ended tragically just blocks away while walking alone in the early morning hours; he was the innocent victim of a senseless shooting on January 9th, 2022.

Donovan spent most of his youth growing up on the west then north sides of Chicago. He attended DeDiego Elementary and Mcauliffe Elementary in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, then Clinton Elementary, where he won a Young Authors competition for a short story he wrote, “Chicago the Bear”. Donovan earned placement into Von Steuben High School’s selective enrollment “Scholars Program” in the Albany Park neighborhood. Donovan graduated from Evanston Township High School in 2016. He attended classes at Oakton Community College in Skokie, Il.

Donovan lived and maintained his own apartment near Western and Pratt Blvd on the Northside of Chicago. He was employed as a Parts Delivery Driver. He was looking forward to enrolling in classes at UIC in the fall. He was almost always easy going but could be entirely focused on a goal. Donovan had a broad range of interests including music production, drawing, attending concerts and festivals, gaming, biking and spending as much time outside as possible. He loved to be out in the city. He would never pass on a chance to try something new. He was adventurous and entirely spontaneous.

Donovan is survived by his parents Ernestine and Michael and his sister Dahna’Adel Duffy. Donovan’s maternal grandparents are Maria Penny and Ernest Napper. His maternal aunts and uncles: Latashia Penny-McNeil and Eric McNeil, Michael Penny, and Jelani and Vanessa Penny. Donovan’s paternal grandparents are Ed and Mary Mulligan. His paternal aunts and uncles: Shannon and Bill Meyer; Angie and Chad Wilson; Stephen and Carrie Mulligan; and Phillip and Katie Mulligan. Donovan was the first grandchild and the oldest male of his many, many cousins. Donovan will be remembered by his large family and numerous friends that were all shocked by his untimely passing.

Donovan will be greatly missed and fondly remembered forever. Donovan was cremated and a “Celebration of his Life” will be held. Thank you to everyone who reached out with love, support, caring messages and donations. You are the legacy he left behind.
