Life Story

Sadeka “Shelly” Hossain passed away on November 27th, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was a devoted mother of three children Tania, Benaz, and Arvin and a loving grandmother to Wyatt (she is also survived by her recently born granddaughter, Mia). She was married to Dr. Zahur Hossain for fifty years.

She immigrated to the United States shortly after Bangladesh’s independence and built her community in Michigan and later Illinois. Through the years she supported countless family members in getting established in the United States.

She was incredibly creative, and expressed her artistic skills in various forms, such as designing Halloween costumes for her children from scratch. She cared deeply about women’s rights and human rights: always speaking up for her beliefs and supporting those less fortunate. Shelly also loved cooking and bringing people together to share her delicious food. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a loving spirit, and will be greatly missed by all.
