Dr. Paul David Cooper

Paul Cooper.jpeg

Paul David Cooper, 86, passed away peacefully in Montreal on Saturday December 18, 2021, following a long and determined fight against cancer.

Predeceased by his parents Benjamin Cooper and Anne Cooper (née Lubotta), his daughter-in-law Anne Cooper (née Radke), his brother Gerald and former spouse Claire Cooper (née Rodrigues-Ely). He is survived by his sons Daniel (Ingrid ), Philippe (Klara Kaplan) and Bernard (Judith Brown, co-parent); grandchildren Benjamin, Jessica, Colette, Matthew and Liam; great grandchildren Lilly, Sophia, Amira, and Adam; sisters-in-law Michelle Cederberg, Erlinda Fernandez; loving cousins; childhood friend Arnold Korn.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Paul grew up in a large, warm and energetic family. After he obtained his doctorate in medicinal Chemistry at the University of Ottawa, he was a professor at the University of Toronto and the University of Montreal. Paul and his family lived many years in Montreal and then Victoria B.C.  Later he returned to Montreal to be closer to his family.

Paul had an energetic approach to the many projects he undertook in his life and career as a scientist and an unquenchable curiosity and hands-on approach about all things technical. Despite being slowed down by illness, he enjoyed his travels to Spain.

We are grateful and thankful to the Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM) and the Centre d'hébergement Armand-Lavergne for the care provided these last months.
