IN LOVING MEMORY
Vera Juanita Covey
Life Story
Vera Juanita (Day) Covey (aka Nita), was born to John Delmonte and Vera Century Day, a small business owner and piano teacher, in the state of Washington on March 23, 1927. She was 1 of 9 children and was immersed in the Christian Science community that would bring her lifelong love and support from an early age.
In 1949, she attended college in Bellevue, Washington. After college, she took a position as a civilian secretary working at the Seattle Naval Station. In 1967, she graduated from training at the Benevolent Association in San Francisco to become a Christian Science Visiting Nurse. She also served in many roles with her church over the years, including as Sunday school teacher, usher, on the flower committee and in the Christian Science Reading Room.
She married John Daniels and moved to Southern California for a few years. After her first marriage ended, she moved to Mountain View, California, where she met her future husband, Albert E. Covey. In 1969, they married in the Sunset Estates mobile home park where they had first met, and lived many happy years there. After her husband’s retirement in 1984, they moved to Bend, Oregon where they purchased a beautiful house on the Dechutes River. In 1998, seeking milder weather, they moved back to the same mobile home park where they had met all those many years ago. After her husband’s death in 2003, Nita continued to live there until her passing.
Juanita is survived by her daughter, Ginny, her step-son Jerry, grandchildren Angela and Ryan, step-granddaughter Laurie, great-grandchildren Olivia and Ivan, and step great-grandchildren Darrin, Emily and Kassie. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones.
