Life Stories

Gloria Pauline (Zakarian) Baldocchi

Gloria Pauline (Zakarian) Baldocchi, 94, of Orlando, FL, passed away on Jan 1, 2024, peacefully with her son and daughter-in-law at her bedside. She is survived by her son Richard (Rick) and his wife Linda of Orlando, FL, two nephews Robert Hather (Valerie) and Don Hather. Gloria is also survived by three Grandchildren, Paige Castro (Jose), Claire Barton (James) and Leah Baldocchi.

Gloria was born on June 10, 1929, in San Francisco to Susan and Levon Zakarian. Susan was born in New Jersey and Levon immigrated to the United States from a small community in Armenia. They raised Gloria and her sister June (deceased) in the Richmond District of San Francisco and Gloria attended Lafayette Elementary School and Washington High School.

Gloria's mother Susan was a piano instructor and taught her daughter classical piano from a very young age. Gloria was somewhat of a child prodigy performing piano concertos at the age of 8. She continued to perform through her youth and obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from San Francisco State University.

Following her graduation from college, Gloria married the love of her life, Lawrence (Larry) Paul Baldocchi. The two moved to Daly City, raised their son Rick, and remained married for 69 years until Larry's Death in 2020. The marriage of Gloria and Larry was an inspiration to many as they always demonstrated love and trust towards each other, and these qualities transcended into their relationships with others.

Gloria and Larry were devout members of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses Daly City Congregation where they were members and served from 1969 until they were physically unable to attend the meetings. Gloria was well known for her ability to make people laugh and her great interest in everybody she met. Her inquisitive nature also helped her acquire a large base of knowledge that seemed to add to every conversation.

Lawerence Paul Baldocchi

Lawrence Paul Baldocchi (Larry), 93, of Daly City, CA, passed away on June 9, 2020, peacefully in the home he lived in for 60 years. Larry is also survived by his son Rick and his wife Linda of Orlando, FL, his sister Babe, his aunt Irida, and his cousin Dan. Larry is also survived by three Grandchildren, Paige Castro, Claire Baldocchi and Leah Baldocchi.

Larry was born on December 29, 1926 in San Francisco to Anita and Lorenzo Baldocchi. Anita and Lorenzo immigrated to the United States from small communities near Lucca, Italy. They raised Larry and Babe in the Richmond District of San Francisco and Larry attended Cabrillo Elementary School and Washington High School. He then joined the Navy and served the country during the last few years of WWII, being stationed in San Diego and San Francisco.

After the war, he attended San Francisco City College and the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied journalism. He always enjoyed participating in sports and played on the basketball teams of both colleges.

He spent most of his career working as the Associate Editor of Underwriter’s Report, a news magazine focusing on the insurance industry. He was known not only for his straight news pieces, but also for his creative editorial columns. He always enjoyed creative writing and spent time composing poems and short stories for friends and family members.

Larry brought lightness and levity to every situation and was well known for making a crowd laugh with one his famous jokes or stories. A few days before he passed, one of his nurses asked if he had been a comedian. Larry and his humor will be missed by many.
