IN LOVING MEMORY
Barbara Ann Barski
Barbara Ann Barski, 88-1/2 years old, passed away July 13, 2021, in the company of her daughters, Gail (William) McCracken and Diane (Timothy) O’Beirne. She is also survived by her two grandsons, Sean (Allison) and Matthew O’Beirne and several beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, parents Earnest and Pearl Myers, and siblings Charles Myers and Jean Nash.
In addition to her family, Barbara was most passionate about figure skating and dancing.
As a young girl, Barbara was a competitive roller skater and with her attractive looks and charming personality she also did some modeling. After graduating high school, Barbara earned a diploma from the Robert Morgan Studios School of Dance. She danced professionally, teaching in person and on TV. She gave up her professional dancing career to raise her family.
For several decades, Barbara was the Director of the Parks & Rec figure skating program at the Garden City Ice Arena. She created annual shows and brought competitions to the rink. She was much loved and admired as a coach and private instructor by hundreds of skaters (her students enjoyed great success in regional and national competitions….many went on to become professional figure skaters themselves!)
Throughout life Barbara was an avid reader, was a crossword master, loved playing cards and would have won millions if she had been a contestant on Jeopardy! She remained very active in retirement with activities at the Senior Center, kept healthy by “exercise walking”, socializing with friends, and enjoying recreational line and ballroom dancing. She was an active member of the Moon Dusters dancing club.
She will be missed by all!
